One Of CBS’ New Dramas Sounds A Lot Like Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

CBS has given the green light to three new dramas, all focusing on law enforcement in one way or another. No surprise there, since CBS has long since settled into a smooth procedural groove with its programming. So what do these new pilot orders have to offer? Well, there’s a stay-at-home mom who becomes a private investigator, there’s a period piece about a real-life rodeo cowboy who became a Las Vegas sheriff…and there’s a series that suggests somebody at CBS really, really enjoyed The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. (As pictured above, Lisbeth Salander is not amused.)

TV Line brings details on the pickups. That last pilot in question is saddled with the unfortunate title of Quean, and was created by former L Word honcho Ilene Chaiken and mega-producer Joel Silver. The series follows the adventures of an Oakland detective who teams up with an edgy female punk hacker to solve crimes. Presumably she has some sort of lizard tattoo on her somewhere. Maybe a gecko.

Moving back up the list we come to an untitled period drama based on the life of Ralph Lamb, who served as the sheriff of Vegas’ Clark County from 1961 – 1979. That makes him Clark County’s longest serving sheriff, quite a feat in a county that no doubt presents plenty of memorable challenges. Before strapping on the tin star, Lamb was a rodeo cowboy. Presumably the show will focus on the sheriff part of his life rather than the rodeo cowboy part. It’ll be exec produced and written by Nicholas Pileggi (Goodfellas) and Greg Walker.

Finally, there’s the detective mom. It follows a former public defender turned stay-at-home mom who begins taking on cases as a P.I. to help keep her from going stir crazy. It’s based on a series of books called the Mommy Track Mysteries. It sounds completely forgettable, which makes all the more sense when you learn that it’s being directed and exec produced by Christopher Columbus. Zzzzzz…
